Today your child learned about using their pointer fingers to type B and N. They practiced on Dance Mat Typing and then played Power Typing.

June 29

Today your child learned about V and M. These are typed with the pointer fingers on the left and right hands respectively. They practiced on Dance Mat Typing, Level 3 Stage 1, and Typing Web, either Easy Home Row Words or Top Row Keys.

June 28

Happy Tuesday! Today your child learned the last two keys on the Top Row...Q and P. These are typed by reaching the pinky finger up. This can be a hard reach for some children. They also practiced typing using the Home Row and Top Row Keys in Typing Web. After playing the games yesterday on Typing Web, some children liked them and some did not, therefore your child will continue to have the option to play whichever games they choose when they complete their Typing Web assignment.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Today your child learned about reaching with their ring fingers to type W and O. Some students played the new games added to Typing Web to see if it would be worthwhile to use in class! Ask your child if they were able to play these new games today.

Today, your child learned about using their pointer fingers to type T and Y on the keyboard. They used Dance Mat Typing for practice and then played Keyboard Climber for practice. After getting the monkey to the moon your child had their choice of any other keyboard games from the blog.

Today, your child learned that their pointer fingers type R and U on the keyboard. They played on Dance Mat Typing and Typing Web for practice.

June 21

Today, your child learned which fingers to use to type E and I. They worked on Dance Mat Typing, Level 1 Stage 2, and Easy Home Row Words on Typing Web.

Tomorrow we will continue looking at the top row on the keyboard!

June 20

Today we discussed "touch" typing, which is typing via touch and not looking at the keyboard. We also set goals for typing speed that your child is going to try to reach before the end of the 3 weeks. Kindergarten to 4th grade is going to try to do 15 words per minute (WPM) and 5th grade to 8th grade is going to try to do 20 words per minute (WPM). These goals are based on the Wisconsin State Standards for suggested typing speed.

Your child also learned what the Home Row keys are (asdfghjkl;) and which finger to put on each key. Tomorrow we will be discussing this further. Additionally, they practiced on Dance Mat Typing and Typing Web, both are linked to the right, and are available for you to use at home if you wish. Typing Web does not require logging in, your child should know how to bypass the log-in screen and practice without having to register. If you want to register your child so that you can see their progress, that is up to you, but not required for this class.

Welcome to our class blog for the Keyboarding summer school class! I will be posting our activities for the day, links to the websites we used, and links for any handouts that are used. As the family of a child in my class, please consider checking this blog daily and having your child show, or tell you, what they worked on in class that day.
